Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 22, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Westover Division.
On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 10:07pm, officers responded to the 450 block of Remount Road in reference to a motor vehicle crash call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a 2000 Mercedes Benz E320 had run off the road way and struck 2 trees. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced the driver, Diana Marie Douglas (DOB: 6/30/1981), deceased due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates the Mercedes Benz was traveling southeast on Remount Road when the driver lost control, ran off the right side of the road and struck two trees. It appears Ms. Douglas was not wearing a seat belt.
Excessive speed appears to be a factor in this crash, and it is unknown if impairment is a factor. Toxicology results are pending.
Ms. Douglas' next of kin have been notified of her death.
