Fatal Crash Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Steele Creek Division.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 6, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Steele Creek Division.


On Saturday, March 4, 2023, at approximately 9:46 p.m., officers responded to the 7900 block of Nations Ford Road in reference to a hit and run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a female lying in the roadway with apparent injuries consistent to being struck by a vehicle. The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic responded to the scene.  Upon Medic's arrival, emergency personnel pronounced the victim deceased.


Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was crossing Nations Ford Road when an SUV struck the victim with the front left of the vehicle. The driver of the SUV fled the crash scene on Nations Ford Road and onto I-77 North. Detectives located video of the crash and are working to identify the vehicle and its driver.


Speed does not appear to be a factor for this crash. At this time, impairment is unknown for the driver of the SUV. 


The toxicology report for the victim is pending.


The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing.
