On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at approximately 6:29 a.m., CMPD officers from the Metro Division responded to the 1200 block of N. Graham St. in reference to a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they located a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado with front-end damage in the roadway. The driver of the Silverado was identified as Mr. Ronald Hart. Mr. Hart remained on scene. Officers also located a pedestrian near the Silverado on the sidewalk who was not responsive. The pedestrian was identified as Mr. James Alexander (DOB 05/24/1959). The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to assist. MEDIC pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene. Mr. Alexander's next of kin was notified of his death.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit along with the DWI Task Force, Motor Unit, and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation. The initial investigation indicates that Mr. Alexander was crossing Graham St. near Dalton Ave. Mr. Alexander was not in a crosswalk and was not wearing reflective clothing. Mr. Alexander crossed the inbound direction of travel on N. Graham St. and made it to the right lane of the outbound direction of travel on N.
