Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday. February 9, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Eastway Division.
On Saturday, January 28, 2023, at approximately 1:53 p.m., Eastway Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the parking lot of Food Lion in the 3000 block of The Plaza. Upon arrival, officers located two damaged vehicles and a pedestrian. The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2002 Honda Accord, driven by, Florence Davis (DOB: 06/11/1933), was backing out of a parking spot when she struck the pedestrian, Pernell Tyrone Torrence, Jr (DOB: 10/17/2003). The Accord continued in a rearward direction striking a parked Honda CR-V. Ms. Davis' vehicle then traveled forward across the parking lot striking a tree. Medic transported Ms. Davis and Mr. Torrence to Atrium Health Main due to their injuries.
On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, Florence Davis died due to the injuries she sustained in the crash.
