Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 4, 2021) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit is conducting a traffic fatality investigation that occurred in the 1300 block of Breezewood Drive in the University City Division.
On Sunday, October 3, 2021, at 6:34 p.m., University City Division officers responded to that location in reference to a personal injury crash involving a motorcycle. Upon their arrival, officers located a gray 2006 Suzuki GSX-R1000 and its severely injured rider near the corner of the residence at 1321 Breezewood Drive. Medic arrived and pronounced the motorcyclist deceased on the scene. The motorcyclist has been identified as Ramon Decio Sims, DOB: 02/27/1979. His family has been notified of his death.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search responded to investigate. The initial investigation revealed that the Suzuki was traveling southeast on Breezewood Drive when it ran off the road to the right and traveled through the front yard of 1329 Breezewood Drive, striking a tree at the corner of the residence at 1321 Breezewood. Neighbors and family members of the Sims called 9-1-1.
Sims was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment is unknown, but test results are pending.
