On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 8:50 a.m., the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a two motor vehicle crash in the 1500 block of Shamrock Drive near Farley Street.  Upon arrival, officers located two motor vehicles with extensive damage in the roadway.  The vehicles involved were a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Cornelius Wilks and a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Jimmy Hamilton.  MEDIC arrived and transported Jimmy Hamilton to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with life threatening injuries.

The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation shows that the Mitsubishi was traveling west on Shamrock Drive and ran off the roadway to the right at Farley Street. After traveling off the roadway, the Mitsubishi then re-entered the roadway and crossed over the double yellow dividing line while rotating counter clockwise. At the same time the Mitsubishi was re-entering the roadway, the Ford Expedition was traveling east on Shamrock Drive and struck the Mitsubishi in the front passenger side door within the east bound lanes of travel.  Speed and alcohol are unknown factors at this time.  Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Jimmy Hamilton died as a result of his injuries on April 20, 2018, at 4:45p.m.  Next of kin has been contacted.  This crash remains under investigation.  Anyone with information about his crash is asked to contact Detective Crum at 704-432-2169.
