***UPDATE*** Eastway Division - Homicide in 600 block of East 16th Street

Case Update:  Tuesday, September 11, 2018,

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department homicide detectives have charged Rodwyn Taylor DOB: 5/20/1988, and Brinton Bertha Jr. DOB: 4/26/2001, with the murder of Psi'keem Walker. 

On 9/11/2018 officers assigned to CMPD's TRAP Unit arrested Taylor and Bertha for unrelated outstanding orders for their arrest.  Both individuals were transported to the Law Enforcement Center where they were interviewed by homicide detectives.  At the conclusion of the interviews the detectives obtained arrest warrants on Taylor and Bertha for the murder of Mr. Walker.  

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Case Update:  Monday, July 16, 2018,

The victim has been identified as Psi'keem Walker, DOB: 06/24/1999.  His family has been notified of his death.

Monday, July 16, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 600 block of E. 16th Street in the Eastway Division.  The call for service came in at 10:55 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018. 

Eastway Division officers responded to a shots fired call for service.  Upon their arrival, officers located an unresponsive male near E. 16th Street and the Greenway with an apparent gunshot wound.  Medic arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.  The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. 

Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, K9 Unit, Aviation Unit, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.
