On Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at approximately 9:49 p.m., Eastway Division Officers responded to a report of a person who was shot while inside a residence located in the 1700 block of Eastcrest Drive.  Upon their arrival, officers located a 12 year old male who had been shot 1 time in the arm.  Officers applied a tourniquet to the child who was then transported by MEDIC to CMC-Main where he is being treated for the injury.

The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was at home in a bedroom of his apartment when he was shot.  There were a total of 5 other family members inside the residence when the incident occurred; no one else was injured.  The bullet was fired from outside of the apartment when it entered the bedroom and struck the victim.

Officers are canvasing the area for witnesses and attempting to determine a motive for this shooting.  At this time it is not readily apparent if the apartment was deliberately shot into or was hit by accident.

Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to call 911.   The public can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the Crime Stoppers mobile app website at http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/
