Detectives with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested and charged Duncan Carl Gray, DOB: 09/27/1957, for his involvement in this case.
On Monday, April 11, 2016, detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit were notified by detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police Department about a sexual assault that occurred at West Charlotte High School and began an investigation.
During the investigation, detectives spoke with the victim who advised several years ago when he was a student and a member of the band at West Charlotte High School, he was sexually assaulted by Gray who was the band director. According to the victim the assault took place inside the school. Based on the evidence and information gathered, detectives obtained two warrants for the arrest of Duncan Gray.
On Sunday, April 17, 2016, Gray was arrested without incident and transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives. Upon completion of the interview, Gray was charged with two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Student and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
This remains an ongoing, active investigation. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
