Death Investigation in the Independence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, November 2, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation in the 1900 block of Charleston Place Lane in the Independence Division.
On Wednesday, November 2, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an assist medic call in the 1900 block of Charleston Place in the Independence Division. Upon arrival, officers discovered a four-year-old child with a gunshot wound. Medic transported the victim to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased. While the investigation remains preliminary, the CMPD is not looking for any suspects.
Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, CFD, Medic and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
