Case Update: Death Investigation in the Providence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, July 29, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have classified this case as a justified homicide.  The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office has reviewed the case and concurs with the detectives’ decision not to charge anyone in this case.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 11, 2021) – The victim in this case has been identified as Calvin Blair Hilton, DOB: 02/13/1952. His family has been notified of his death.

This investigation is now being classified as a homicide.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, July 10, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation near the 4800 block of Doris Avenue in the Providence Division.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on July 10, 2021, officers responded to an Assault With a Deadly Weapon call for service near the 4800 block of Doris Avenue.  When they arrived, officers located a victim with an apparent stab wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, CMPD Victim Services and CFD also assisted.
