Crimes Against Children Investigation in the Freedom Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating a sexual assault in the Freedom Division.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, shortly after 2:30 p.m., the CMPD school resource officer for Wilson STEM Academy notified Crimes Against Children detectives of a juvenile female victim who reported being inappropriately touched by an adult male employee at Wilson STEM Academy.

 

Detectives with the CMPD's Crimes Against Children Unit responded to the scene to take over the investigation.

 

On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, the suspect, David Lucas (DOB: 10/06/1997), was arrested without incident.  He was transported to the CMPD Law Enforcement Center.  Following an interview, he was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.  Mr. Lucas has been charged with Indecent Liberties with a Child, Taking Indecent Liberties with a Student by a School Administrator, and 1st Degree Kidnapping.  Mr. Lucas is employed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a family engagement advocate.
