Crime Stoppers Offers $50,000 Reward for Attempted Murder Investigation After Donation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 9, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's North Tryon Division have charged two suspects for the attempted murder of a Duke Energy line technician that occurred on June 18, 2021.

Information from the community was pivotal in leading detectives to Sammy Garcia, DOB: 11/05/1997, and Javier Lee Martinez-Hernandez, DOB: 06/26/2001.  Warrants were issued for the suspects' arrest, and CMPD collaborated with the York County Sheriff's Office's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and the FBI's Safe Street Task Force, who arrested both suspects in South Carolina.

Garcia and Martinez-Hernandez have both been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.  They are pending extradition back to North Carolina.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 21, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's North Tryon Division are conducting an attempted murder investigation near the 4100 block of The Plaza.

Around 9:30 p.m. on June 18, 2021, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service near the 4100 block of The Plaza. When they arrived, officers located the victim, a Duke Energy line technician, with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was approached by two unknown suspects at gunpoint while performing routine work. Medic transported the victim to Atrium Health with life threatening injuries.

Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from the North Tryon Division and Medic also assisted.
