On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, a Superior Court Judge has granted a petition filed by the Charlotte Observer requesting the release of traffic camera video that was captured in uptown Charlotte during the civil disturbances in September 2016.
The petition filed by the Charlotte Observer was for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to release videos related to protests and demonstrations following the September 20, 2016 police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. The Charlotte Observer worked with CMPD to determine the best locations and times of the collected video footage to highlight the "boiling points" of the civil disturbance. The petition was granted and
the court order the release of videos from the following locations and times:
