CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Aug. 26, 2019) – City Manager Marcus D. Jones has announced that Jason Schneider will join the City of Charlotte as media and public relations director. As part of the City Manager’s Senior Leadership Team, Schneider will work closely with Chief Marketing Officer Brent Kelly, city departments and external partners to ensure the community is well-informed about city services and programs.

“Jason is a dynamic leader with years of experience across an array of complex industries,” Jones said. “He has a track record of leading successful, innovative communications teams. I am excited he is bringing his vision and energy to Team Charlotte.”

Schneider has extensive experience developing communications strategies for large, complex organizations; leading issues and reputation management, national and local thought leadership, media strategy, brand journalism and organizational positioning.

“Communication connects people and can help create a shared culture across communities and organizations alike,” Schneider said. “This is a tremendous opportunity to work for the people of Charlotte while promoting the city’s story.”

Prior to joining the City of Charlotte, Schneider served as senior director of Atrium Health’s corporate communications department and led many of the system’s most significant announcements and communication campaigns. Schneider started his career in journalism working for large metropolitan newspapers, as well as the Associated Press, before transitioning to communications and working for public relations agencies in Florida and Washington, D.C. He has advised Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations and worked with some of the world’s most well-known brands including Coca-Cola, NASCAR and Subway.

Schneider will start with the City of Charlotte on Sept. 16.
