CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 21, 2019) – The City of Charlotte is gearing up for a fun weekend in the Queen City. The annual Circle K Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola will be in uptown Charlotte Thursday, May 23, through Saturday, May 25, and city government offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
The following are City of Charlotte preparations for this weekend. Most city services will operate as normal on Monday.
Charlotte Department of Transportation
Circle K Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola event hours will be noon to 8 p.m. on all three days, Thursday through Saturday. Event organizers expect 300,000 spectators.
Street closures begin Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and all roads will reopen Sunday at noon. Street closures for the festival include:
- Mint Street northbound, between Third Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; Third Street between Mint Street and Poplar Street; and Tryon Street between Trade Street and Stonewall Street (cross streets remain open); beginning Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
- Levine Avenue of the Arts between Church Street and Tryon Street, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
- Fourth Street, Third Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between College Street and Church Street closes, beginning Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
- Cross streets between Church Street and College Street. The cross streets will reopen on Friday from 6-9:30 a.m. for morning commuters. The cross streets include:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
- Third Street
- Fourth Street

Charlotte Area Transit Service (CATS)
On Sunday, CATS will operate a "Speedway Shuttle" for fans wanting to attend the Coca-Cola 600. Service from the LYNX Blue Line JW Clay Boulevard Station to the Charlotte Motor Speedway will begin at noon, with shuttles operating every 20 minutes until 6 p.m. Pick-up and drop-off locations at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be near the track's entrance. After the checkered flag, buses will line up and wait for passengers before departing to return to JW Clay Boulevard Station. Service back to JW Clay Boulevard Station will run for one hour after the checkered flag.
On Monday, CATS bus routes, the LYNX Blue Line and CityLYNX Gold Line will operate on a Sunday service schedule in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. The CATS Pass Sales and Information Office at the Charlotte Transportation Center, and the CATS Call Center will be closed Monday.
Express bus services will not operate on Memorial Day.
CATS and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation are offering a free shuttle for riders wanting to visit Ramsey Creek Beach during Memorial Day weekend. The shuttle will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday through Monday, and leave from the Cornelius Park and Ride, 20300 Sefton Park Road, for Ramsey Creek Beach. The shuttle will also operate for the Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays.
Solid Waste Services
The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will support Circle K Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola with litter control. The department will run three crews each day that will begin at 8 a.m. and finish once the crowds have dispersed.
Solid Waste Services will collect garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky waste as usual on Memorial Day.
Outside regular business hours, CharMeck 311 callers can report water, sewer, stormwater and animal issues via an automated service that dispatches assistance. Many service requests can be made online 24/7. Please call 911 for any emergencies.
