Central Division - May Day protest arrests

Detectives with the CMPD Arson Unit have charged Landon Rice, DOB: 10/21/1994, VanaMary Isaac, DOB: 04/26/1992, and Dhruv Pathak, DOB: 10/21/1993, for their involvement in the case below.

On Tuesday, May 01, 2018, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a small group of approximately 15 protestors gathered at Marshall Park to protest International Workers' Day or "May Day".   

The CMPD allowed protestors to gather at Marshall Park and were on hand to ensure the safety of the protestors as they marched to College and Trade Street.  While the group was in the 100 block of N. College Street, three suspects stopped, pulled out an American flag, poured ignitable liquid on it and set it on fire.   Charlotte Fire and CMPD Arson Detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

Detectives with the CMPD Arson Unit interviewed Rice, Isaac and Pathak and they were subsequently transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Injury to Real Property and Carelessness with Fire.
