Central Division - Homicide in the 200 block of East Boulevard

Case Update: Saturday, May 18, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Richard Bernard Grier, DOB: 09/03/1963, for the murder of Andrew Tyrelle Allen, DOB: 09/18/1986, who is the victim in this case.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Homicide Unit detectives identified Grier as a suspect.  Grier was arrested and subsequently interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Grier was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, May 18, 2019

​Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 200 block of East Boulevard in the Central Division.  The call for service came in at 1:42 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019. 

Central Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with multiple stab wounds in the parking lot of the Shell Gas Station.  Medic transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  His name will be released once his family has been notified.

Responding officers detained a person of interest nearby to be interviewed by detectives. No additional suspects are being sought by detectives at this time.  

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CFD, Medic and Operations Command responded to the scene.
