***UPDATE*** Central Division - Homicide in the 100 block of West Summit Avenue

Case Update: Saturday, September 28, 2019,

The victim in this case has been identified as Jervon Sloan, DOB: 05/19/1989.  His family has been notified of his death. 

The shooter has been identified and interviewed. The investigation is ongoing but detectives have determined they will not file charges at this time. The District Attorney's office will review the detectives' decision.  The shooter's name will not be released unless he is formally charged with a crime in this investigation.

As further information develops, it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, September 28, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 100 block of W. Summit Avenue in the Central Division.  The call for service came in at 2:05 a.m., on Saturday, September 28, 2019.  

Central Division patrol officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 1400 block of S. Tryon Street.  Upon arrival, they located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound lying in the street on Summit Avenue at the intersection with S. Tryon Street.  He was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.  His name will be released once his family has been notified.  A short time later a second male showed up at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound that was also sustained in the incident.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, MEDIC, Victim Services, RTCC and Operations Command responded to the scene.
