Case Update: Shooting Investigation in the Freedom Division--August 17, 2021

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, August 17, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Freedom Division have charged Willie Allen, DOB: 05/06/1988, for his involvement in this incident.

As a result of continued investigation, an accidental discharge from the juvenile was determined due to an unsecured firearm in the residence. Allen was the only adult occupant inside the residence at the time of the incident. During Crime Scene Processing, several additional firearms were located inside the residence, loaded, and easily accessible.

 

Freedom Division Detectives interviewed Allen. He was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's office and charged with Failure to Properly Store A Firearm to Protect A Minor and Possession of A Firearm Felon.

 

The following are pictures of the several firearms seized within the residence. Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 16, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Freedom Division are conducting a shooting investigation that occurred in the 2100 block of Long Ridge Lane.

 

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., officers in the Freedom Division responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 2100 block of Long Ridge Lane.  Upon arrival, officers located a four-year-old victim with a gunshot wound.  Medic transported the juvenile to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

 

Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Initial evidence suggests that another juvenile at the residence located an unsecured firearm inside the residence and accidentally shot the victim. Detectives are currently speaking with all adult occupants inside of the residence at the time of the incident.
