Case Update: Public’s Assistance Requested Identifying Suspect in Assault With a Deadly Weapon Investigation

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in an Assault with a Deadly Weapon investigation.

The suspect vehicle was involved in an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury in the 7100 block of Wallace Road on August 29, 2022. The vehicle appears to have one black male occupant (driver). The suspect vehicle entered a parking lot at 6:44 p.m. where the suspect began shooting into a building. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene, making a left-hand turn onto Wallace Road towards Monroe Road.

 

The vehicle is extremely weathered with extensive sun damage to the hood and trunk. The vehicle has a sunroof and no tag displayed. There is damage to the driver-side door fender and to the back right passenger door of the vehicle.

 

Anyone who recognizes this vehicle or has information on its whereabouts or the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Detective B. Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury Investigation in the Independence Division 

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 29, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting an assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury investigation near the 7100 block of Wallace Road in the Independence Division.

 

Shortly after 6:48 p.m., officers responded to an assault with deadly weapon call for service near this address. Upon arrival, officers located a 4-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Medic transported the victim to an area hospital where the child is currently undergoing surgery.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the CMPD's Operations Command and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
