Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2300 block of Katherine Kiker Road in the University City Division.

As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit identified two suspects in this case and obtained warrants for their arrest.

 

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, University City Division officers encountered, Jeremiah Cunningham (DOB: 03/05/2002), at Atrium Health – University.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Mr. Cunningham was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to speak with homicide detectives.  Following the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

 

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, CMPD's Homicide Unit detectives received information from CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) that, Josiah Evans-Bailey (DOB: 09/27/2002), turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

 

Both suspects have been charged with Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, December 15, 2022) – The victim has been identified as David Lavell Manning (DOB 06/01/2002). The victim's next of kin have been notified of his death.

Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, December 14, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2300 block of Katherine Kiker Road in the University City Division.

 

On Wednesday, December 14, shortly after 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a call for one person found shot in the 2300 block of Katherine Kiker Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound on the side of the road. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, Medic and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
