Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, May 26, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Ron Andrew Malik Neal, DOB: 08/06/1997, with the murder of Rashawn Darrius Pitt.

As a result of their continued investigation, Homicide Unit Detectives identified Neal as a suspect in this case. On May 26, 2021, Detectives with CMPD's Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT), along with the assistance of the Dallas (North Carolina) Police Department, apprehended Neal without incident.  Neal was transported to the Law Enforcement Center for an interview with Homicide Detectives. Following the interview, Neal was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with First Degree Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 25, 2021) – The victim in this case has been identified as Rashawn Darrius Pitt, DOB: 07/26/1994. His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, May 24, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 300 block of Charger Ct in the University Division.  

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on May 24, 2021, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service near the 300 block of Charger Ct.  When they arrived, officers located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  Medic transported the victim to the hospital where he has since been pronounced deceased by hospital staff. 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, and CFD also assisted.
