Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 600 block of W. 24th Street in the Metro Division.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, January 5, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Charles Jimmie Maxie, Jr. (DOB: 07/14/1976). The victim's next of kin has been notified of his death.

 

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, detectives with the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested the suspect, Cedric Thompson (DOB: 09/07/1993).  Mr. Thompson was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown to be interviewed by detectives with the CMPD's Homicide Unit.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Thompson was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with the following:

 

  • Murder-1st degree
  • Possession a of Firearm by Convicted Felon

 

The victim's next of kin has also been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division 

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, January 4, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 600 block of W. 24th Street in the Metro Division.

On Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at approximately 4:22 p.m., Metro Division officers responded to a call about an injured person in the 600 block of W. 24th Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medic responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, the Charlotte Fire Department, Medic, Victim Services, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
