Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, March 2, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have identified a second suspect in connection to this case.
On Wednesday, March 1, 2022, Curtis Ray Wilson III (DOB: 11/08/2004), turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Sherriff's Office. Mr. Wilson was charged with the Murder.
The victim's family has been notified of the arrest of the second suspect.

Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, February 23, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Jayden Blackmon (DOB: 01/3/06). The victim's next of kin has been notified of his death.
As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have made an arrest in connection to this case. On Wednesday, February 22, 2022, Gerry Martez Burns, Jr., (DOB: 01/17/2005), was arrested and charged with the following:
- Murder
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
The victim's family has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, February 19, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 900 block of Lynn Street in the Freedom Division.
On Sunday, February 19, 2023 shortly before 4 p.m., Freedom Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 900 block of Lynn Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old juvenile male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and immediately began rendering aid. Medic responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Although early in the investigation, initial reports indicate this was not a random act of violence.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victims Services, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Medic and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
