Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Eastway Drive in the Eastway Division.

The deceased subject in this case has been identified as Ever-Danilo Gonzales-Avila (DOB 05/22/2001).  

 

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have classified this case as a justified homicide. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office has consulted with CMPD's Homicide Unit and concurs with the detectives' decision not to charge anyone in this case.

 

Mr. Gonzales-Avila's family has been notified of his death as well as the case status.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, October 9, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Eastway Drive in the Eastway Division.

 

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, shortly before 1 a.m., Eastway Division officers initially responded to an armed robbery call for service in the 1900 block of Eastway Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject deceased from a gunshot wound.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Charlotte Fire, and MEDIC also responded.
