Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, February 17, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Leon Mack (DOB: 08/10/1951). Mr. Mack's next of kin has been notified of his death.
Due to the quick response of the CMPD's Real Time Crime Center and members of the CMPD's Central Division, the suspect was located a short distance away from the incident scene and taken into custody. The suspect was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown to be interviewed by homicide detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, the suspect, Terry Thompson (DOB: 06/15/1971) was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with the following: Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
The victim's next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Central Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (February 17, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 400 block of North Poplar Street in the Central Division.
On Friday, February 17, 2023, at approximately 10:25 a.m. Central Division officers responded to an Assist Medic call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from a life-threatening injury. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, the Charlotte Fire Department, Medic, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
