Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 6, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have identified and arrested a suspect in connection to this case.
On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Kendal Edward Morris (DOB: 01/30/1991), was arrested in Key West, Florida. The arrest was accomplished due to a collaborative effort involving CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), Key West Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Office (FL) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Mr. Morris is charged with involuntarily manslaughter. The suspect will be extradited back to the Mecklenburg County in the coming weeks.
The victim's next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Case Update: Death Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, February 13, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Steven Gomez (DOB: 12/07/2007). The victim's next of kin has been notified of his death.
Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have interviewed individuals involved in this case and no charges will be filed at this time. Homicide Unit detectives will continue to investigate this case and will consult with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office as needed upon completion of their investigation.

Death Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, February 12, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation in the 9800 block of Coriander Court in the Hickory Grove Division.
On Sunday, February 12, 2023 at approximately 4:04 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call in the 9800 block of Coriander Court in the Hickory Grove Division. Upon arrival, officers discovered a juvenile with a gunshot wound. MEDIC responded and pronounced the victim deceased on-scene. While the investigation remains preliminary, the CMPD is not looking for any suspects.
Homicide Unit detectives and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, the Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, Victim Services, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
