Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, December 6, 2022) – As a result of continued investigation, members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's SWAT team, with the assistance of the FBI, executed a search warrant and arrested a suspect in connection to this case.
On Monday, December 5, 2022, Tyson Lee Corpening (DOB: 01/22/1986), was arrested. Mr. Corpening was charged with the following:
- Attempted Murder
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
- 2 counts of Ethnic Intimidation
- Damage to Property
- Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon
- Threat of Mass Violence on Educational Property
The daycare and the park ranger have been notified of the arrest.

Case Update: Assault with a Deadly Weapon Investigation in the Metro Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, December 5, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have found evidence that connects the Assault with a Deadly Weapon investigation with threats communicated at a daycare in the 3300 block of Beatties Ford Road.
On Monday, December 5, around 8:40 a.m., officers responded to a communicating threats call for service involving a rock that was thrown through the window of a daycare with a note containing hate speech and various threats toward children. No injuries were reported in this incident. CMPD detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and worked with the daycare to inform parents. CMPD's Crime Lab is analyzing evidence from both cases and the FBI's Charlotte field office is also assisting in the investigation.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon Investigation in the Metro Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, November 27, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in the 2300 block of Cindy Lane in the Metro Division.
On Monday, November 27, shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 2300 block of Cindy Lane at the entrance to Friendship Sportsplex, a Mecklenburg County Park facility. Upon arrival, officers located a Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation employee suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers administered tactical medical treatment on scene until MEDIC arrived and transported the victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command and MEDIC also assisted.
