***UPDATE*** CMPD investigating Department of Homeland Security Officer Involved Shooting

Case Update: Saturday, August 25, 2018,

The deceased male has been identified as Donald Janvier, DOB: 1/14/1988.  His family has been notified of his death.

Any information pertaining to the agent involved will be released by the Department of  Homeland Security.  The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate this ongoing case.  As additional information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, August 25, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting an officer involved shooting investigation involving a federal agent that occurred in the 4700 block of N. Tryon in the North Tryon Division. 

On Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 1:55 a.m., officers from the North Tryon Division responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. Preliminary information indicates that the Department of  Homeland Security and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Agents were conducting an inspection at the Tropix Bar and Lounge located at 4701 N. Tryon Street.  As agents were conducting their inspection, a disturbance occurred inside of the bar.  Patrons and employees came outside to the parking lot where the disturbance continued.  One person got into a vehicle and drove towards a federal agent, striking him.  The federal agent subsequently fired his service weapon, striking the man.  The agent sustained minor injuries and was transported by Medic.  No shots were fired by CMPD Officers. 

Medic responded and pronounced the man deceased on scene. His identity will be released pending family notification.

Detectives are currently interviewing people who may have witnessed this incident.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team and Operations Command responded to the scene. 

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As additional information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
