Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Armed Robbery Unit have charged Timothy Whiteside, DOB: 11/16/1971, and Veronica Crawford, DOB: 05/20/1976, for their involvement in a series of robberies that occurred last night.
- On Tuesday, November 06, 2018, at 6:48 p.m., Central Division officers responded to the 1300 block of S. College Street in reference to an robbery from person call for service. The female victim stated that the unknown suspect brandished a firearm and told her to get his the suspect vehicle. The victim refused and the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.
- On Tuesday, November 06, 2018, at 8:59 p.m., Eastway Division officers responded to the 3700 block of Central Avenue in reference to an robbery from person call for service. The female victim advised that an unknown suspect approached her brandished a weapon. The suspect took the victims purse and cell phone before fleeing the scene.
- On Tuesday, November 06, 2018, at 9:58 p.m., Eastway Division officers responded to Commonwealth Avenue and The Plaza in reference to an robbery from person call for service. The male victim advised that he was sitting in his vehicle in a parking lot when was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects.
- On Tuesday, November 06, 2018, at 10:34 p.m., Providence Division officers responded to the 1600 block of East Boulevard in reference to an robbery from person call for service. The victim advised that the suspects robber her at gunpoint and stole her vehicle. The vehicle was recovered unoccupied shortly thereafter.
During the investigation, Armed Robbery Detectives gathered information that helped them identify the suspect vehicle. Detectives broadcasted that vehicle information to all divisions. Today at 12:11 a.m., Metro Division patrol officers responded to the 1100 block of Justice Avenue in reference to a suspicious vehicle call for service. Officers arrived on scene and located an occupied vehicle that matched the description of the wanted suspect vehicle from these robberies. Officers approached the vehicle at which time the vehicle took off and officers pursued the vehicle. After a short vehicle pursuit the occupants were taken into custody after they collided with an innocent bystanders vehicle and were transported to police headquarters where they were interviewed by robbery detectives.
As a result of information and evidence gathered, Armed Robbery and Westover Division detectives determined that these suspects were also responsible for two additional robberies that occurred on Hemphill Street (October 27, 2018) and Reid Avenue (October 31, 2018). They are reviewing similar cases throughout the city and additional charges may be filed. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
