Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 23, 2021) – Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have successfully de-escalated an incident involving a subject that was armed with a firearm in the University City Division.
At 11:40 a.m., on September 23, 2021, officers responded to the 9300 block of Campus Edge Circle in reference to a subject who was armed with a firearm. Upon arrival, officers determined that the female victim and female suspect were inside an apartment. Officers also learned that before their arrival, the female had possibly discharged a firearm into the air. Officers immediately evacuated the surrounding area and continued attempts to de-escalate the situation peacefully. When the suspect refused to exit the residence, officers requested the assistance of CMPD's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team for additional resources to de-escalate the situation.
CMPD's negotiators established verbal communication with the suspect, who surrendered to officers around 1:28 p.m. The suspect's identity will be released once she has been formally charged.
No one was injured during the course of this incident. No officers fired their weapons during this incident. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Community Policing Crisis Response Team, UNCC Police Department, Medic, and CFD also responded to assist.
