Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 27, 2022) – The victim in this case has been identified as Wayne Lawson Byrd (DOB 08/13/1987). The family of the victim has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 27, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1600 block of Merry Oaks Road in the Eastway Division.

On Monday, June 27, 2022, shortly after 5:30 a.m., officers responded to an assist medic call for service in the 1600 block of Merry Oaks Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim unresponsive from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
