Case Update: CMPD is Conducting a Homicide Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 16, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Juan Deras Escalante, DOB: 07/15/2000, and Mario Jose Ramirez-Duarte, DOB: 08/24/2000, for the murder of Tyron Jodie Ervin.

Relentless investigation by homicide detectives identified Escalante and Ramirez-Duarte as suspects in this case, and warrants were issued for their arrest. Escalante, who is already in custody for murder on an unrelated case, will be served with the additional murder warrant by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he will remain in custody.  Ramirez-Duarte was located and arrested without incident on August 15, 2021.  Following his interview with detectives, Ramirez-Duarte was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he was served his murder warrant.

 The victim in this case has been identified as Tyron Jodie Ervin, DOB: 02/24/1996His family has been notified of his death.

Monday, December 17, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9100 block of Fisher's Pond Drive. The call for service came in at 11:26 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018.

South Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service. Upon their arrival, they located the male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. The victim's identity will be released pending family notification.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to locate witnesses to this incident. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene as well.
