This month's "Fast Five" series features Solid Waste Services Director Rodney Jamison, who plays a large role in helping keep the city clean and sustainable.
Which part of the organization do you lead?
I lead the Solid Waste Services Department.
Why did you decide to work for the City of Charlotte?
I am a Charlotte native and have always wanted to be a part of something impactful in my city, something that would add value and give back to a city that I have grown up in and love. I found that in Solid Waste Services. Solid Waste Services is arguably one of the most visible departments within the city because residents see our employees every day. As a result, working for Solid Waste allows me to do something significant 365 days a year. Charlotte has always been known for being a clean city, and I am grateful for playing a role in that endeavor.
What is the biggest organizational priority you're working on right now?
Our number one priority is to protect the public health of the City of Charlotte by providing services, in partnership with the community, that deliver environmentally friendly collection programs that are safe, competitive and efficient. Getting staffed appropriately to ensure we are able to live up to customers' expectations as this city continues to grow at such a rapid pace is a major focus.
What is your favorite part about working for the City of Charlotte?
I love working with people. The interaction with city staff and residents of the City of Charlotte keeps me striving to do more. There is something unique happening at work every day. There is never a dull moment, and there is always work to be done.
What is your favorite restaurant in Charlotte?
One of my favorite places to eat is Midwood Smokehouse.
