CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 17, 2023) – The Charlotte Urban Design Center (UDC) in the City's Planning, Design and Development Department will launch application processes for the 2023
Placemaking Grant and
Creative Pool on Thursday, Jan. 19, for the third consecutive year. Charlotte residents, organizations and businesses are encouraged to submit applications for consideration.
The 2023 Placemaking Grant and Creative Pool application processes will be open from Jan. 19 through March 3. A total of $125,000 in grant funding is available and award grants will be between $1,000 and $25,000.
The UDC launched the Placemaking Program in 2018 to transform underutilized public spaces into vibrant places for people by using urban design and placemaking. It has also launched and maintained a Local Artist Creative Pool for city-led and community-led placemaking work. The Pool includes creatives with diverse skills who manage, create and implement original compositions. Mediums include fabrication, performance, mixed media, written and spoken word, video/photography and more.
"The City of Charlotte's Placemaking grants provide support to community members looking to enhance the vibrancy and creative identity of their neighborhood public spaces. We are looking forward to seeing even more community-led, innovative placemaking projects flourish in 2023," said Interim Planning Director Alyson Craig.
More information about placemaking can be found at the
Placemaking Hub, a UDC-managed online resource center for community members looking to complete projects in their neighborhoods. The Placemaking Hub streamlines City processes, promotes community collaboration and accomplishes public space goals for everyone.
Placemaking Grant applicants may apply for a variety of project types.
