Urgent! Pet adoptions needed!

The city's pet shelter is overflowing with adorable furry friends who need your help.

Currently there more than 500 animals being cared for at CMPD Animal Care and Control.  The shelter has waived adoption fees for cats, kittens and adult dogs when a financial donation is made to support shelter programs.

"You can volunteer, and you can donate, but adoption right now is our number one need," says CMPD's Melissa Knicely.

Staycation or Daycation a great option!

If you are not ready to provide a forever home at this time, people are urged to participate in the Staycation program. It's a chance to foster a dog for a few days which will free up a kennel and give a shelter dog a chance to spend time with a loving human.

You can also opt for a Daycation, where you and your kennel dog get the opportunity to enjoy the day out and about. More information about the shelter's adoption, staycation and daycation programs can be found on the city's Adopt-A-Pet website.

Additionally, the shelter is always looking for foster parents who are willing to take animals home to help with various health or medical needs. Among those needs are kittens—both weaned kittens who just need time to grow/be socialized as well as neonates who need to be bottle fed. Other pets may need help recovering from illness or surgeries.  More information about the shelter's foster program can be found on the city's AC&C foster parent website.

The shelter is located at 8315 Byrum Drive, just 1 mile off I-485 – Exit 6 (West Blvd). It's hours of operation are Mon.-Fri. from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sat. – Sun. from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
