CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 12, 2022) – The City of Charlotte, in partnership with Envision Charlotte and Keep Charlotte Beautiful, will host a week-long Clean the Queen event to reduce litter on city streets, roadways and neighborhoods.
Residents can volunteer individually or with a group to collect debris the week of Earth Day, April 18-22, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. There are two shifts each day. Participants will be assigned to an area of town and will be provided with safety vests, litter pickers and collection bags.
Volunteers will be asked to take a before and after picture of their assigned area and return the collected items to the Innovation Barn, located at 932 Seigle Avenue. Volunteers at the Innovation Barn will weigh, analyze, sort and recycle the items. A full report will be generated after the event.
In addition to Clean the Queen, residents can participate in two programs on April 21 that will give them a chance to learn more about sustainability:
- Circle Up, 4-5:30 p.m. Network with others who have a passion for sustainability and the circular economy.
- Trash Talk, 5:30-7 p.m. Learn how residential and commercial industries are building and designing in a more circular way.
On Friday, April 22, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Brandon Zylstra is scheduled to volunteer during the 9 a.m. shift. He will be available for media interviews.
