‚Äč‚ÄčCommercial Inspections

The Engineering Department inspects the construction of commercial projects to ensure that they adhere to the approved site development plans, all applicable City regulations, and the Charlotte Land Development Standards.
Follow the Certificate of Occupancy Checklist (as included in the Pre-construction Information Packet) for items to be complete prior to Engineering CO Hold Release on commercial projects. 


When site construction is completed and satisfactory City Engineering, Commercial Zoning, and Urban Forestry will release their "holds" that have been placed on the Certificate of Occupancy (CO) for the project.  Check the Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement website, to determine what holds have been placed on your project and schedule their inspection.

To request a commercial CO hold release, please fill out and submit the new Commercial Project CO Hold Release Request form.

Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement Inspectors perform inspections on all building projects.  Projects can have separate Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing, City Fire, and Backflow Inspections.  Visit the Inspections page at Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement for more information regarding Building Code inspections.

At the final stage of construction, a CO is issued by Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement to provide official verification that the site is in compliance with current regulations and the approved site and building plans.  The CO is issued by Mecklenburg County once all City and County inspectors have released their respective holds.
