Our Recruitment Efforts

Cadet Program will provide qualified students, actively enrolled in a local college, an opportunity to work in a professional, law enforcement environment, while learning about and training for future employment as a Police Officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

College Internships

College Internship Program introduces students to the opportunities and disciplines within the law enforcement field. Interns work alongside department personnel in a wide spectrum of assignments throughout the CMPD. Interns will be exposed to effective problem-solving and partnership-building skills as well as gaining a better understanding of day-to-day operations of the police department.

Youth Academies

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is looking for a few good teens ... to participate in a one-week, hands-on course for young people who are interested in a career in law enforcement or students who would like to find out more about our organization.

High School Explorers

Exploring is a worksite-based program in which young adults learn about particular careers in which they have an interest. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department sponsors two Exploring Posts that provide teens with the opportunities to learn about the law enforcement profession, and make informed decisions about possible future careers.

Volunteering

Volunteers are a vital part of our police department in that they help in various areas of the department and the community.

Citizens Academy

Citizens can learn firsthand about police operations through a series of lectures, simulated activities, practical sessions and tours.

Transparency Workshops

Our Transparency Workshops are 3-day events that give community members an inside understanding of CMPD’s processes, services, and operations. The mission is to work towards strengthening community relationships, increasing the community understanding of police work, as well as equipping citizens to provide productive and meaningful input into how their police department functions.

Citizens on Patrol

C.O.P. Volunteers will be assigned to a patrol district and will work with a partner performing duties such as traffic direction at crash scenes, assisting disabled motorists, checking abandoned vehicles, performing zone checks, as well as citizen welfare checks.
