Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, June 14, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified a suspect in connection to the murder of Reginald Averi Gilkesson.

 

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested Justin Duane Rix (DOB: 01/27/1995). Mr. Rix was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown where he was interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following: Murder and Shooting Into an Occupied Property.

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, June 11, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 12600 block of Atkins Circle Drive in the South Division.

 

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, shortly before 4:30 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 12600 block of Atkins Circle Drive in the South Division. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on-scene.

 

Homicide detectives along with Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, Victim Services, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team also assisted.
