Case Update: Fatal Hit and Run Crash in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 21, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit have identified and charged a driver in connection to this case.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit determined that excessive speed by the Land Rover driven by, Mr. Hayman, is a contributing factor for this crash. Detectives also determined that once the SUV came to rest after the crash, the suspect committed several offenses against the passenger.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit obtained arrest warrants on Mr. Hayman for the following:
- Involuntary Manslaughter
- Felony Hit and Run Death
- Felony Hit and Run Personal Injury
- Kidnapping
- Assault on a Female
- Communicating Threats
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Felony Witness Intimidation
- Interfering with an Emergency Service Call
- Reckless Driving
- No Operators License
On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, Nazir Omari Hayman (DOB: 10/28/2003), turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He was transferred into the custody of the CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Hayman was returned to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Taze Pritchett’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Fatal Hit and Run Crash Investigation in the Independence Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, September 18, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in the Independence Division.
On Sunday, September 17, 2023, at approximately 2:50 a.m. officers responded to a call for service in reference to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 6400 block of Idlewild Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 2019 Dodge Challenger and 2015 Land Rover, both with extensive damage. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene. MEDIC pronounced the front seat passenger of the Dodge, Taze Jordan Pritchett (DOB: 04/07/1990), deceased on scene. The driver of the Dodge, Maria Jose Quintanilla Ramos (DOB: 05/01/1992, was transported by MEDIC to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The initial investigation indicates the Land Rover was traveling on Idlewild Road towards Independence at a high rate of speed when it struck the Dodge as it was making a left turn.
An Independence Division officer on his way to a separate call for service arrived on the scene shortly after the crash occurred and immediately began to render aid to both the driver and passenger of the Dodge.
The driver and passenger of the Land Rover fled the scene immediately after the crash. Officers searched the area and located the passenger of the Land Rover, Nevaeh Amari Chante Washington (DOB: 03/31/2003). Ms. Washington suffered injuries from the crash and an assault. She was transported by MEDIC to Atrium Health Main. The driver of the Land Rover was not located.
The Land Rover was reported stolen from Charlotte on Monday, September 11, 2023. The CMPD completed a stolen vehicle report under the incident number: 20230911-1147-02.
Ms. Taze Pritchett’s next of kin has been notified of her death.
