Fatal Crash Investigation in the Providence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, June 23, 2023) Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the Providence Division.

 

On Thursday, June 22, 2023 at approximately 10:02 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 6200 block of Fairview Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a man lying in the roadway and a white 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with front right-end damage.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded.  Medic pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene.

 

The CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with the DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian, Gregory Allen Wall (DOB: 01/5/1976), was crossing Fairview Rd. Mr. Wall was walking in a dark, dimly lit area and not in a crosswalk.  He stepped into the path of the Chevrolet pickup, driven by, Martavious Dentra Robinson Locke (DOB: 4/28/1996).  Mr. Wall was struck by the truck and thrown several feet forward.

 

Mr. Locke was screened for impairment and was found to not be impaired at the time of the crash.  Impairment is unknown at this time for Mr. Wall.  A toxicology report is pending.

 

Mr. Wall’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

 

The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
