Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 10, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified a suspect in connection to the murder of Stacy Deshawn Herring.
On Monday, July 10, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), with the assistance of the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office arrested Santerio Dmon Brice (DOB: 02/05/1999) in Midland, NC. Mr. Brice was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown where he was interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 9, 2023) – The victim in this case has been identified as Stacy Deshawn Herring (DOB: 05/28/1988). The victim’s family has been notified of his death.

On Saturday, July 8, shortly before 8:30 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 8200 block of North Tryon Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, CFD, CATS, Allied Universal Security Services and Medic also assisted.
