Assault with a Deadly Weapon Investigation in Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 16, 2023) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are conducting an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in the 6600 block of Idlewild Road in the Independence Division.

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at approximately 3:49 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 6600 block of Idlewild Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a home that had been shot into and a 9-year-old victim struck in the foot by a bullet. MEDIC responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Division detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, MEDIC, and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
