Two Officers Injured, Civilian Killed in Crash

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 23, 2024) – The deceased victim in this case has been identified as Brian Lavon Battle, 29. Mr. Battle’s family has been notified of his death.

Neither of the officers involved were seriously injured. The driver of the motorhome that struck the victim and officers has been identified as Robert Ewrin Reiser – his injuries are considered non-life threatening. Formal charges have not been filed at this time.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, August 22, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that injured two officers and fatally injured a civilian in the Freedom Division. 

 

On Thursday, August 22, shortly after 8:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to a stolen vehicle call for service on the shoulder of I-485 at Mt. Holly Rd. Around 10:15 a.m., as they were actively investigating, an uninvolved vehicle struck two police cars and the civilian who was reporting the stolen vehicle to officers. The civilian was pronounced deceased on scene. An officer who was pinned in his vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. A second officer and civilian were also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. 

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, the DWI Task Force and Motor Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
