Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, May 23, 2024) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) University City Division has arrested one person on the campus of Julius L. Chambers High School in the 7600 block of IBM Drive.
Officers received an unsubstantiated threat that prompted a lockdown at Julius L. Chambers and two other nearby CMS schools at approximately 11:15 a.m. Officers responded to canvass the area. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle on campus with a 19-year-old male driver who was found to be in possession of a loaded rifle. The subject was unrelated to the original call for service and subsequent lockdown.
The man was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Firearm on Educational Property and Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated/Altered Serial Number. CMPD strongly urges parents and caretakers – do not bring weapons on campus or have them in your vehicle when you are picking up your child or dependent.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. For more information about this case, please refer to the report: 20240523-1115-00.
