School Administrator Charged in Sexual Assault Investigation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Dec. 6, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) have arrested and charged a private school administrator in a Special Victims Division-Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) investigation.
On Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, CMPD was notified by Charlotte Country Day School of suspected crimes by its Assistant Head of School. Scott Waybright, 58, was identified as the suspect. After further investigation, the case was then assigned to the CMPD’s Sexual Assault Unit (SAU).
On Friday, December 6, 2024, Waybright was arrested after turning himself in at the CMPD Law Enforcement Center. He was later transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
He has been charged with the following:
- Possessing a photographic image obtained in violation of the peeping statute (5 counts)
- Secretly using a photographic imaging device to view another’s body or undergarments (5 counts)
Mr. Waybright’s employment at Charlotte Country Day School was terminated on Monday, December 2, 2024.
