Officer-Involved Shooting in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 25, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 5000 block of Roundstone Way in the North Division.

Preliminary information reveals on Friday, August 25, shortly before 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a domestic disturbance call for service. Upon arrival, officers feared a threat inside the apartment and entered. Officers observed a lethal threat to the victim and one officer discharged their service weapon. The subject was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries due to multiple stab wounds.

All officers are unharmed from the incident.

Homicide Unit detectives and the State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and process the scene and collect physical evidence.  CMPD's Operations Command, Peer Support, Victim Services, Animal Care and Control, Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, Child Development-Community Policing, Medic, and CFD also responded to assist.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) will be the lead investigative agency in this incident.  As is standard procedure, the officer that fired their service weapon in this incident has been placed on paid administrative leave.
