Case Update: Officer-Involved Shooting in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, March 26, 2025) – The officers who perceived an imminent deadly threat and discharged their service weapons during this incident have been identified as:
- Officer Austin Bartlow assigned to the University City Division. Officer Bartlow began with CMPD on Oct. 25, 2021.
- Officer Charles Lineberger assigned to the University City Division. Officer Lineberger began with CMPD on Oct. 23, 2023.
- Officer Jonathan Nicholas assigned to the University City Division. Officer Nicholas began with CMPD on Aug. 13, 2012.
- Officer Michael Wilson Jr. assigned to the University City Division. Officer Wilson began with CMPD on Oct. 23, 2023.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 10, 2025) – The deceased suspect in this case has been identified as Reggie Allen Knight, 28.
CMPD officers were in the process of serving outstanding warrants and arrest orders for Mr. Knight at the time of the incident. The following is a list of the warrants and arrest orders:
Mecklenburg County Warrants
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Firearm by Felon
- Carrying a Concealed Gun
- Resisting Public Officer
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Communicating Threats
- Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence
- Two counts of Assault on a Female
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Assault by Strangulation.
Mecklenburg County Orders for Arrest
- Felony Probation Violation Out of County
- Intoxicated and Disruptive
Iredell County Orders for Arrest
- Driving While License Revoked
- Driving While Impaired
Mr. Knight’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, March 7, 2025) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit is conducting an officer involved shooting investigation in the 12000 block of Headquarters Farm Road in the University City Division.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., CMPD officers were attempting to serve several warrants in the 12000 block of Headquarters Farm Road.
When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to evade officers and then opened fire on CMPD officers. Perceiving an imminent deadly threat, officers discharged their service weapons, engaging the suspect.
Two officers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene.
The CMPD is the lead investigating agency in this case. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation per standard protocol.
As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation.
Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Homicide Unit, MEDIC and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office also responded.
